Brewgooder strengthens board with two new appointments following 212% growth

Social enterprise brewery, Brewgooder, has appointed two new board members, including the current Senior VP of Growth at Skyscanner.

Shane Corstorphine of Skyscanner and Patrick Hartless of William Grant & Sons, bolster the current board of five to provide strategic leadership as the brand looks to transition from start-up to scale-up and reach £2.5 million in sales by FYE 2021.

In 2018, Brewgooder has seen growth of 212% on 2017 with a turnover of £554,000. It is currently funding projects on a weekly basis, providing around 2000 people per month with clean water in Malawi, and with eight employees, 2500 UK distribution points, three national supermarket listings (Tesco, Co-Op and ASDA), the brewer is anticipating 65% growth to £850,000 by their financial year end in April 2019.

As Senior VP of Growth at Skyscanner, Shane oversees 250 people responsible for driving growth across more than 35 markets. Prior to this, in his remit as CFO, he took the business from a £50 million valuation to £1 billion. He has also worked in a number of high-level roles for Barclays after starting his career at PwC.

Shane said: “I love everything Brewgooder stands for and believe it has all the elements needed to be a leading unique craft beer brand with a difference. I’m looking forward to joining the team and using my expertise and experience to help Brewgooder maximise its potential.”

Patrick is the current Global Supply Chain Director at William Grant & Sons, responsible for the supply network in a £1.2 billion business exporting over 3,000 products to 200 countries, with a team of 180 people. He was previously Executive Director at Nestle, managing the supply chain in Malaysia & Singapore while overseeing a team of 500 people.

Patrick commented: “It’s a fascinating time to join the board of Brewgooder. I look forward to bringing my experience in the food and drink sector to the table and playing a part in the ongoing success and growth of the business.”

Alan Mahon, founder of Brewgooder, added: “Shane and Patrick’s appointments reflect our growing ambition to be a social scale-up, something that is quite rare in the social enterprise world. By using the experience of Shane’s role in scaling-up Skyscanner into one of Europe’s biggest tech companies and a Scottish unicorn, we can apply some of those learnings to drastically increase the number of people whose lives we can improve with access to clean water.

“The fresh perspectives and exceptional backgrounds of both Shane and Patrick will be tremendous assets through this period of growth so we can put ourselves in a position to grow sales to £2.5m and be sustainably bringing over 100,000 people clean water access by the end of 2021.

Launched in March 2016, Brewgooder uses 100% of its profits to further its mission to bring 1,000,000 people clean drinking water. To date, Brewgooder has helped 53,381 people across 72 projects in Malawi gain access to clean water. It plans to expand its clean water initiative into Ghana in 2019, and aims to help over 100,000 people gain consistent clean water access by the end of next year.
