Low carbon startups head to Scotland’s premier investor showcase

A top selection of early-stage, high-growth-potential low carbon companies are at Engage, Invest, Exploit (EIE) – Scotland’s premier investor showcase today (Thursday 19 April 2018) to pitch to investors from the UK and across the globe.

Launched in 2008 and this year supported by ECCI and Climate-KIC – Europe’s biggest climate innovation programme – EIE has been a springboard to over £500 million in funding over its 10-year history. Previous big winners at EIE include Celtic Renewables and pureLiFi – both supported by ECCI’s business growth programmes.

This year’s low carbon line-up at EIE includes anaerobic digestion revolutionaries Carbogenics and designers of an energy efficient and sustainable alternative to industrial centrifuges, uFraction8. UFraction8 recently won a spot on the Climate-KIC Accelerator programme at ECCI which gives low carbon start-ups funding and support to build rock-solid business models and take their target markets by storm.

Last year ECCI became the official partner of Climate-KIC in Scotland and in 2017 helped 11 Scottish companies scoop more than £500,000 worth of investment, bag 14 awards and create 17 new jobs. More than 20 start-ups are currently being helped through the centre’s Climate-KIC programmes. As part of its Climate-KIC programme, ECCI is also running the green ideas competition ClimateLaunchpad 2018. Accelerator stage 2 and Climatelaunchpad are currently open for applications. Find out more about Climate-KIC at ECCI and how to apply: https://edinburghcentre.org/support/climate-kic.

ECCI accelerates our move to a zero carbon society by bringing people together and creating a hub of knowledge and expertise to kick-start new ideas and deliver groundbreaking projects. With an award-winning work space and events venue in Edinburgh and a base in Hong Kong, ECCI is the leading low carbon hub for Scotland and beyond, driving cross-sector collaboration and effective action for a zero carbon world.

ECCI’s Deputy Director and National Climate-KIC lead for Scotland Ed Craig said:

“ECCI is delighted to be supporting EIE this year as the official Scotland partner of Climate-KIC. Ideas and innovators like the ones our Climate-KIC programmes generate are key to Scotland’s thriving low carbon industry.

“As Scotland’s premier investor showcase EIE provides an opportunity like no other for our best innovators to pitch to investors from the UK and across the globe, attract funding, scale up and take effective actions towards a zero carbon world.”
