Having already made in-roads in China with a distribution partnership established in 2017, the brand, based in Grantown on Spey, is now looking to take its Scottish roots to even more global customers.

If the Kickstarter campaign is successfully funded, the brand will exhibit its next collection to international buyers at a showroom in Paris in early 2019 and invest in a digital strategy to reach customers in other Asian markets as well as the USA.

Cathleen Nicol, founder and designer at C.Nicol said: “Our brand has had much success in its first few years, but there’s so much more we want to do. So far, we’ve sold through a small number of online retailers but we want to take our Scottish handbag brand into new markets world-wide. Much of our social media following and visitors to our website are from outside the UK and whilst we can sell to them via our own e-commerce site, we want to try and reach them on their home turf where they can see our bags in stores.

Looking to new markets, (research, product development, connecting with agents and retailers or working on in-market PR and marketing) takes a lot of investment. We decided to create and launch a Kickstarter campaign to assist us in targeting key overseas markets in 2019.”

People who wish to back C.Nicol’s Kickstarter campaign can make a pledge on the brand’s Kickstarter project page in return for a reward. The rewards comprise a range of bags from C.Nicol’s colourful Summer 2019 collection and backers are essentially pre-ordering from this collection at special Kickstarter rates.
