Edinburgh catering companies, Appetite Events, is celebrating an 80% annual growth in turnover to £1.5m for 2017/18 in its fifteenth year in business along with

Founding Director, Nigel Kennedy, said:
“When we launched the business, our aim was to operate at the highest level, as both a leader in event catering but also as a company founded on an ethical approach. This is still an industry known for low pay, long hours and poor working conditions and we wanted to do things differently. Of course we’re proud of our financial strength and the reputation we’ve built up in a competitive market place but our success has come while working hard to respect, reward and develop our staff and promote and support local suppliers too. 15 years marks an important milestone for us and our refreshed brand reflects where we are now as a business. We’ve taken on some of our biggest events in the last few years and our team collectively and individually relishes the creativity required to create show stopping, world-class events for our clients.”
As part of Appetite Events’ ethical approach it has developed long term partnerships with a number of charity partners. This has included the coordination and delivery of Edinburgh’s Crisis at Christmas for the past 5 years, providing 1,400 hot meals to homeless people over the Christmas period in 2017 with similar volumes expected this year. In addition, the company works with local schools to provide work experience for young people and has provided placements and employment for the homeless. As part of its environmental commitment, Appetite Events works with and promotes local suppliers and growers, supports small businesses and works with ethical partners such as Changeworks and Vegware to ensure a minimal environmental impact. Summer 2018 has seen the development of the company’s own garden, providing vegetables, salad and edible flowers to support their events.
Appetite Events is the official catering partner of The Edinburgh International Festival; a sponsor of the Edinburgh International Science Festival and supporter of the Edinburgh international Book Festival and Film Festival. Success has been recognised with a number of awards over the past few years, including Best Caterer at the Scottish Event Awards, Events Caterer of the Year at the UK Event Awards and Event Supplier Excellence at the EventIt ‘E’ Awards.
