Scottish gym and fitness equipment supplier Origin Fitness plans on creating more than 50 new jobs across Edinburgh over the next three to five years to support ambitious plans for growth and expansion, including more than doubling company turnover to £20 million by 2021.

Head-quartered in Newbridge, the 52-person strong company, which supplies many of the major operators in the fitness industry including Nuffield Health, Xercise4Less and Anytime Fitness – even designing gyms for The Open Golf Championships and Scottish Power’s head office in Glasgow – is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month.

Fitness and healthy living has seen a huge boost in popularity over the past decade. The UK fitness industry is worth just under £5 billion and there are now over 7,000 gyms across the UK, with total membership approaching 10 million.

After a strong start to the financial year, Origin Fitness is now in the top five commercial fitness equipment companies in the UK. The new roles will be created across all areas of the business including marketing, sales, logistics, warehousing, finance, engineering and product development.

Over the past decade, Origin Fitness has worked with over 3,000 facilities globally to improve their offering and in 2017, supplied over 100,000 fitness products into the market, even supplying equipment to The Scottish Fire & Rescue Service and The Ministry of Defence.

Co-founder and Managing Director Paul Bodger said the company’s success is “down to our strengthened sales team in Edinburgh and around the UK and our growing reputation as one of the industry’s best companies to work with. Almost 80% of our revenue is repeat business, so the customers we’ve worked with keep coming back time and time again.”

Founded in 2008 as Anytime Leisure Limited, the company has grown and diversified over the past ten years to keep up with changing consumer demands, including a shift in focus towards functional and free weights training equipment. This sparked the launch of the first generation of the company’s own fitness products in 2012 called Origin, and the success of these lines resulted in the company later rebranding itself as Origin Fitness.

The Origin Fitness range includes over 750 different products while the company’s recent appointment of Paul Dzialak as Head of Product Development will see this range improve and expand even further. The company has invested heavily in its stock in recent years to ensure orders can be fulfilled in record time and just last year, Origin Fitness doubled the size of its Edinburgh warehouse to hold more stock and product lines than ever before.

Paul Bodger, Co-founder and Managing Director at Origin Fitness continued: “The fitness industry has undergone a period of huge growth, major change and acceleration in many areas. Our team have done a fantastic job in moving with the industry, helping us stay at the forefront of industry trends and always doing what’s best for our customers. We aim to use our recent success in the UK marketplace, which is one of the most developed in the world, to springboard our growth into Europe.  We’ve come such a long way since we founded the company in 2008, but there’s still huge potential for us to drive the business forward by setting a new standard for suppliers in our industry.

“Our success is all down to our fantastic team, and as we look to more than double the number of staff based at our Edinburgh office and across the country in the next three to five years, I’m confident that they will take the company to the next level.”

Jonny Curley, Co-Founder and Director of Sales & Marketing at Origin Fitness commented: “As we celebrate 10 years in the business, the future is definitely looking bright. It has been an amazing journey and we owe a lot to the clients and partners we’ve worked with over the years, but most importantly we owe thanks to our amazing staff. It’s their teamwork, passion and professionalism that ensure 80% of our business comes from returning customers. Origin Fitness has a clear vision for growth in the UK, Ireland and Internationally over the coming years, and has become a major force in the European fitness industry.”
