The firm has also been very active in the grants sector raising grants gaining in the region of £15m for clients in financial services, manufacturing, and contact centre/business outsourcing.  This included one of the largest single Regional Selective Assistance grants in recent years of £6.6m which, as part of an overall £12.8m grants package for a single client, will support the creation of over 1,300 new jobs in Scotland.

Iain Walker, Director, Corporate Advisory at French Duncan LLP, commented: “We had a fantastic 2018, advising on a range of deals in Scotland and England, across a wide range of sectors. The reasons behind the deals were diverse including a son buying out the family hotel begun by his dad decades ago to a technology firm being acquired by an international group. The appetite for deal making remains strong and business owners were as active last year as in any year before.”

“We also supported a large number of businesses in securing grants to assist in their expansion and growth. In addition, we were involved in a great deal of due diligence again across a wide range of sectors.”

Iain concluded: “Deal activity remains positive going into 2019 and business owners will continue to merge, to acquire other businesses, and to grow to fulfil their ambitions.”
